AJ Pivot/hinge plates and pivot bending jig

Norman Whitnall devised this method many years ago and we have produced a set of components which allows this method to be used easily. It works very well when used in conjunction with our wagon baseplates.

There are 2 different type of hinge plate packages. One is with a base upon which to mount the plate, the other is without the base and is intended for proprietary wagon bodies that have thick floors.

The package with a base provides enough components for 4 vehicles. To use these you will need either 10BA or 12BA nuts and bolts but the kit includes a series of plates which can be used as tapping blocks. The other package provides enough pivot plates for 5 vehicles.

The pivot bending jig helps you to ensure that the wire is bent at 90 degrees in relation to the nose of the coupling, something which is not easy to do without this useful aid.

Pivot/hinge plates are used to form a mounting for the AJ coupling in the centre of the vehicle. Traditionally the coupling has been mounted at the opposite end of the vehicle to the pull which can cause the derailment of a vehicle.
